Beijing Film Academy

The Beijing Film Academy, also Film School Beijing (北京 电影 学院Chinese, Pinyin Běijīng Diànyǐng Xueyuan, english Beijing Film Academy ) is the only film school in China and the most important of its kind in Asia. It is located in the Haidian District of Beijing, where most universities in the Chinese capital are located.

The Beijing Film Academy was established in May 1950 under the name of performance art institution of the Film Bureau of the Ministry of Culture ( " Performing arts institution of the Film Bureau of the Ministry of Culture " ) and renamed several times in the next five years, until finally on June 1, 1956 the name of the Beijing film Academy received.

Every year, tens of thousands of candidates apply for admission to the Film Academy, it may nevertheless be allowed only between 400 and 500.

During the Cultural Revolution from 1966, the Beijing Film Academy was, like most educational institutions in the People's Republic of China, affected, and many teachers had to leave the university. In 1978, two years after the Cultural Revolution, the university, in turn, enabled the enrollment of new students.

The famous graduates of the Beijing Film Academy include both directors of the so-called fourth, fifth and sixth generation, such as Wu Tianming (4th generation), Tian Zhuangzhuang, Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou (5th generation), and Jia Zhangke, Wang Xiaoshuai and Zhang Yuan ( 6th generation). As a successful actresses and actors who have graduated from college, Xu Jinglei, Zhao Wei, Huang Xiaoming, Liu Yifei and Jiang Yihong be mentioned.
