Belcastel (Aveyron)
Belcastel is a commune with 228 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aveyron, Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs to the district Rodez and Canton Rignac. It is classified as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ).
Geography
The medieval village situated on the banks of the Aveyron in a tight river bend between Rodez (24 km ) to the east and Villefranche -de- Rouergue (38 km ) to the west.
Attractions
- The Belcastel castle with foundations dating back to the 9th century.
- The stone bridge over the Aveyron with five arches, built by Seigneur de Alzias Saunhac in the 15th century.
