Benedict John Osta

Benedict John Osta, SJ ( born August 15, 1931 in Blasurahi; † January 30, 2014 in Patna ) was archbishop of Patna.

Life

Benedict John Osta took effect on July 20, 1950 at the Congregation of the Jesuits and received after studying theology and philosophy at the University of Chicago on June 9, 1963, the ordination. He also served as master of novices of his order (1969-1976) and vicar general in Patna ( 1976-1980 ).

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 6 March 1980 as Bishop of Patna. The Archbishop of Calcutta, Trevor Lawrence Cardinal Picachy SJ, donated to him on 21 June of the same year the episcopal ordination; Were co-consecrators Pius Kerketta SJ, Archbishop of Ranchi and Augustine Francis Wildermuth, Bishop Emeritus of Patna.

With the elevation to an archdiocese on 16 March 1999, he was appointed by John Paul II, Archbishop of Patna. On 1 October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. its age-related resignation.

Osta was an honorary member of the Catholic Bishops ' Conference of India CBCI.
