Bernard James Sheil

Bernard James Sheil ( born February 18, 1888 in Chicago, Illinois, † September 13, 1969 in Tucson, Arizona) was auxiliary bishop in Chicago.

Life

Bernard James Sheil, who grew up in Chicago, received on 21 May 1910, the sacrament of Holy Orders by Archbishop James Edward Quigley.

Pius XI. appointed him on March 25, 1928 Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago and Titular Bishop of Pegae. The Archbishop of Chicago Cardinal George Mundelein consecrated him on 1 May of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Edward Francis Hoban, Bishop of Rockford and Edmund Michael Dunne, Bishop of Peoria. He was born on June 5, 1959 Titular Archbishop of Selge.

Bishop Sheil was the founder of the Catholic Youth Organization ( CYO ) 1930. 1933 he founded under the name Holy Name Technical School, the Lewis University in Romeoville. In 1939 he co-founded the Industrial Areas Foundation. In 1942, he got through the Boy Scouts of America Silver Buffalo Award and the 1953 by the Federal President, the Federal Cross of Merit.
