Berwick (Victoria)

Berwick is a suburb of the Australian city of Melbourne. With approximately 36 419 inhabitants, it accounts for about one percent of the population of Melbourne. Berwick belongs to the administrative district Casey City.

The place was originally a resting place on the mail route to Gippsland. The local tavern ( Berwick Inn), which was named by its owner after his English birthplace, Berwick -upon- Tweed, gave the village its name.

1938, the first private airfield was built in Berwick.

An avenue of poplars along the main road and through Beaconsfield to commemorate the fallen of the First World War. Originally on the individual trees nameplates should be fixed, but this has not happened.

Probably the most famous son of Berwick is Richard Casey, who later became the Baron of Berwick was.
