Besnans

Besnans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Besnans situated at an altitude of 245 m above the sea, 2 km south of Montbozon and about 20 km south-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is situated in the valley of the Ognon, at the northwestern edge of the hill country, which extends between the river valleys of Ognon and Doubs.

The area of ​​2.94 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The eastern boundary runs along the Ognon as it flows through a broad valley about one kilometer to the south. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the alluvial plain, which is on average 240 m, up to the adjacent plateau. This consists of limestone of the Upper Jurassic period, is located at about 280 m and is partly under arable and meadow land, partly covered with forest. In the west of the municipality floor extends into the grove of the Bois Lajus, in the 308 m with the highest elevation reached by Besnans.

Neighboring communities of Besnans are Montbozon the north and east and Avilley and Maussans in the south.

History

Is first mentioned in 1140 as Besnans parish seat was the monastery of Saint -Vincent, Besançon assumed. In the Middle Ages Besnans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2000 Besnans is a member of the comprehensive 21 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon.

Attractions

The original Romanesque church was restored several times over the years and transformed, most recently in the 18th century. It has a rich interior.

Population

With 80 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Besnans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 113 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth have been recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Besnans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are very few jobs in the village. Meanwhile, the site has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Montbozon after Maussans.
