Maussans

Maussans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Maussans situated at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, 4 km south of Montbozon, approximately 22 km south-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in a slightly elevated position north of the valley of Ognon, at the northwestern edge of the hill country, which extends between the river valleys of Ognon and Doubs.

The area of ​​3.92 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The southern boundary runs along the Ognon as it flows through a broad valley about one kilometer in a wide arc around the village. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward over the alluvial plain, which averages to 235 m, except for the adjacent plateau. This consists of limestone of the Upper Jurassic period, is located at about 280 m and is partly under arable and meadow land, partly covered with forest. In the north of the municipality floor extends into the grove of the Bois Lajus, in the 308 meters, the highest elevation of Maussans is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Maussans are Montbozon and Besnans in the north, Avilley in the east, and Ollans Larians -et- Munans in the south and Loulans - Verchamp in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Maussans in 1299th In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté came Maussans with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2000 Maussans is a member of the comprehensive 21 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon.

Attractions

The chapel Sainte -Anne was built in 1834. The covered Lavoir ( well, wash and livestock watering ) is from 1865.

Population

With 68 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Maussans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1911, 96 people were still counted ), a slight population growth have been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Maussans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are very few jobs in the village. Meanwhile, the site has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Avilley after Loulans - Verchamps. Another road connection with Montbozon.
