Vellefaux

Vellefaux is a commune in the Haute- Saône in the Franche-Comté region. It belongs to Canton Montbozon and the Local Government Association Chanois.

Geography

Vellefaux between Vallerois - Lorioz in the Northeast and Échenoz -le -Sec in the southwest, 7 kilometers south of Vesoul on the European road 23 (No. 57).

History

Vellefaux existed since Gallo-Roman times, it was the Roman road from Besançon ( Vesontio ) to Luxeuil -les- Bains ( Luxovium ). In the 11th century, the lords of Vellefaux supported the monastery of Luxeuil -les- Bains. Were mentioned in documents Jean de Vellefaux, Guillaume de Vellefaux ( 1139 ) and Hugues de Vellefaux (1302 ). Hugues de Vellefaux had married Mahaut d' Arbois, a great-niece of Louis IX. of France ( 1214-1270 ). 1475 married the heiress of the fief, Marguerite de Vellefaux, Antoine de Grammont - Fallon, whose grave stone can still be seen in the garden of the parsonage.

1586 the village was ravaged by the plague. In the course of the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops pillaged 1636 Vellefaux.

Attractions

The old castle in Vellefaux from the 13th century. Have been preserved the foundations, parts of the apartment building, parts of the pigeon house, the remains of a tower and a gate. Two chimneys date from the 18th century and by another chimney from the 16th century traces remain. In 1989 the castle was in the Additional List of Monuments historiques registered ( inscrit MH).
