Cenans

Cenans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cenans situated at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, 6 km southwest of Montbozon and about 21 km south of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is situated in the valley of the Ognon, on the southeastern edge of the woods to the Grands Bois.

The area of ​​5:02 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The southern part of the area occupied by the alluvial plain of the Ognon ( average 230 m), which here flows in a north -flung arc by about one kilometer wide valley. Also parts south of the present river course belong to Cenans. To the north, the terrain rises to a plateau, which is on average 260 m. This plateau consists of limestone of the Upper Jurassic period and is partly under arable and meadow land, partly covered with forest. In the east it is bounded by the Talniederung the lower Linotte. On the heights of the Grands Bois is 293 m reaches the highest point of Cenans.

History

In the Middle Ages Cenans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2000 Cenans is a member of the comprehensive 21 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon.

Attractions

In the hamlet Guiseuil is the church, which was rebuilt in the 18th century and five surrounding villages serves as a parish church. It has rich collection of furniture from the 18th century and the statue Vierge de Pitié ( 16th century).

Population

With 141 inhabitants ( 2004) Cenans one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 212 persons were still counted ), a long time there were only slight variations. Only in recent years, it came to population growth.

Economy and infrastructure

Cenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Meanwhile, the site has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.
