Beverley Martyn

Beverley Martyn ( born 1947 in Coventry as Beverley Kutner ) is an English folk singer, songwriter and guitarist.

Career

Their first single she released in 1965 with the Jug Band " The Levee Breakers ". It was followed by several solo singles under her name. She met Paul Simon, with whom she went to New York. It is heard in the Simon & Garfunkel song Faking It to their album Bookends of 1968, where she says: " Good morning, Mr. Leitch, have you had a busy day". On 16 June 1967 she performed at the Monterey Pop Festival on, as well as Simon & Garfunkel.

In 1969 she met John Martyn, whom she later married. As a duo, they released two albums in 1970, Stormbringer! and The Road to Ruin. Then John Martyn took his solo career again. The marriage of the two was divorced in 1980. Beverley Martyn withdrew from the music business.

In the 1990s, she had a comeback. She went with Loudon Wainwright III on tour. 1998 her album No Frills. 2004 their song Primrose Hill by Fat Boy Slim for his title Northwest Three was sampled on the album Palookaville.

Throughout her musical career Beverley Martyn has worked with numerous artists, including Levon Helm, Jimmy Page, Dave Pegg, Richard Thompson, John Renbourn, Ralph McTell, Davy Graham and Sandy Denny. They can be seen on the cover of the album It Do not Bother Me ( 1965) by Bert Jansch, who had taught her in the 1960s to play the guitar. She was friends with Nick Drake, who helped at times as a babysitter. With him, she wrote the song Reckless Jane that will appear on their next album, The Phoenix and the Turtle 2014.
