William Earl "Bill" Stone ( born May 28, 1899 in Two Harbors, Minnesota, USA; † August 27, 1983, ibid ) Nickname: Red, was a US- American football player. He played for the Duluth Kelleys / Eskimos and the Chicago Cardinals in the National Football League ( NFL).

Playing career

Bill Stone signed in 1923 a professional contract with the Duluth Kelleys, who were coached by Joey Sternaman. 1926, the later members included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame John McNally, Ernie Nevers and Walt Kiesling of the team from Duluth, which was further renamed this year in Duluth Eskimos. On the failure of the team, however, this did not change. After another game year the Eskimos had to suspend the operation of gambling. Stone won with his team, only 16 of 39 games. For the 1928 season, he joined the Chicago Cardinals. In 1929, the Cardinals Ernie Nevers and the former teammate of stone with the Eskimos Russ Method could take under contract. Bill Stone returned to his home town of Two Harbors. He ran there a club and a liquor store. In 1997, he was inducted posthumously into the Two Harbors High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
