Blackjack is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri and is 20 km north of St. Louis in its metropolitan area.

The name "Black Jack " comes from a grove with so-called black-jack oak ( blackjack oak ).

Demographic data

According to the United States Census 2000, there were 6,792 people in 2,422 house half portions and 1,789 families residing in blackjack. From Ethnic perspective, the population is made up of 71 % black, 26 % white, and smaller minorities.

In the 2,422 households 36.6 % have children living below the age of 18, 52.1% live in married couples, 18.3 % live in single women and 26.1 % are non family households. 23.2 % of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone over 65 years. The average household size is 2.70 and the families of 3.20.

In relation to the city the population was composed of 27.3 % under the age of 18, 8.0 % from 18 to 24, 27.1% between 25 and 44 years, 24.3% between 45 and 64 years and 13, 2% over 65 years. The average age is 37 years.

The median income for a household in the city is 51 806 U.S. dollars, a family of 63 324 U.S. dollars. The per capita income is 22,705 U.S. dollars. 4.7 % of the population and 2.8 % of families are below the poverty line.

10.8 % of residents of blackjack have German, 3.1% Irish, 2.7% English, 1.5% Italian and 1.3 % of the residents have Polish ancestry.
