Blackburn (Aberdeenshire)

Blackburn is a town in the Scottish unitary authority Aberdeenshire. It is located about ten kilometers southeast of Inverurie and 13 kilometers north- west of the center of Aberdeen, two kilometers south of the Don. Blackburn is connected by the A96 directly to the trunk road network. Its own rail connection does not have the village. While in 1981 only 387 inhabitants were counted in Blackburn, the number jumped to at least 1386 in 2001.

Already in the 19th century Blackburn had a primary school, which had capacity for 87 students in the 1880s. Furthermore, a Church of the Free Church was present. As part of the Tyrebagger Sculpture Project in the area of Blackburn created numerous sculptures, which reflect the history of the region. The name is derived from the 250 m high Tyrebagger Hill, which rises east of the village in Kirkhill Forest.
