Bob Peak

Bob Peak ( * May 30, 1927; † August 1, 1992 ) was an American advertising illustrator who was best known for his movie posters, but whose works graced the cover images of Time magazine, Sports Illustrated and TV Guide.

Peak was born in Denver, but grew up in Kansas. In his studies on the Wichita State University, he took geology as my major, but switched after his military service in the Korean War to the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, where he graduated in 1951. His career as a commercial illustrator began two years later when he moved to New York City and there took over the advertising campaign for Old Hickory Whiskey.

In 1961 he came to the United Artists film studio, which hired him for the advertising of the film West Side Story. Other well-known works are the movie posters for the films of the Star Trek film series, Apocalypse Now, The Spy Who Loved Me and rollerball.

One of the greatest honors was given to him when he designed for the United States Postal Service, the commemorative stamps of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the following Winter Games in Sarajevo in 1984. Furthermore, the Time Magazine peaks works printed from a total of 45 items pictures.
