Bohumil Němeček

Bohumil Nemecek ( born January 2, 1938 in Tabor, Czechoslovakia; † 2, 2010 in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic) was a Czechoslovak fighter.

Biography

Nemecek represented Czechoslovakia at the Olympic Summer Games in Rome in 1960 at the Boxwettbewerben and was in the final battle against Clement Quartey of Ghana Olympic champion in the light welterweight. Quartey won it with his silver medal, the first medal in the Olympics for the African continent. Nemecek from the CSSR had beaten the Americans Quincey Daniels 5-0 in the semifinals. In the final Nemecek was clearly superior technically. Quartey noted one, that he had little international experience and so the result was 5-0 for Nemecek from unique.

In the battle for the title of European Champion in the Amateur Light Welterweight he was defeated in 1962 in the semi-finals Richardas Tamulis.

On May 2, 2010, he died after a long illness in Ústí nad Labem
