Boulot

Boulot is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Boulot situated at an altitude of 220 m above sea level, about 13 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department, on the northern edge of the valley of Ognon, in the low country of Tounolle west of the forest heights of the Grands Bois.

The area of ​​7.08 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The southern border is always along the Ognon. This flows here with several turns west through a flat area which has a width of about two kilometers and is on average 215 m. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the valley to the adjacent plateau, which is composed of Tertiary sediments. In the eastern part there is the valley system of Tounolle and their side stream, which rises in the Creux les Brez. East of Tounolle Valley ranges of communal land on the ridge of the Grands Bois, on the 287- m, the highest elevation of Boulot is achieved. This ridge consists of limestone of the Upper Jurassic time.

Neighboring communities of Boulot are Chaux -la- Lotière and Boult in the north, Bussières in the east, Cussey -sur- l'Ognon in the south and Etuz in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Boulot in 1203 under the name Bolat. The place name is a diminutive form of Boult ( neighboring village ) and is derived from the Old French word boul (birch). In the Middle Ages Boulot belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government of the village held the Lords of Boult. Together with the Franche -Comté Boulot came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In the 19th century there ore was mined and processed. Today Boulot is a member of the 28 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Christophe was built in 1773 and has a rich interior of this period. Also from the 18th century comes the Château de Boulot.

Population

With 523 inhabitants ( 2005) Boulot is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 299 persons were still counted ), a strong population growth has been recorded since the early 1960s again. Since then, the population has more than tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Boulot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration in Besançon.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Rioz after Etuz. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 13 km. Further road links exist with Voray -sur- l'Ognon and Chaux -la- Lotière.
