Fondremand

Fondremand is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fondremand situated at an altitude of 270 m above sea level, 19 km southwest of Vesoul and about 27 km north of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department, in the hill country that extends between the Saônebecken and the valley of the Ognon, in the valley of the Romaine.

The area of ​​16.43 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of southeast Saônebeckens. From southeast to northwest, the area is traversed by a valley cut. In the village rises the romaine, which provides for drainage Saône, while the valleys south of Fondremand show no above-ground rivers.

The valley is sunk into the surrounding hills which exists in geologically from calcareous and sandy- marly layers of the middle and upper Jurassic period. The hills are mostly covered with forest, with large areas of arable and meadow land there are only in the hollows. To the southwest of the municipality of soil above the heights of the Bois de la Forêt ( 381 m ) and Bois de Verbuzon (360 m) extends to the headwaters of the Tounolle, a right tributary of the Ognon. Northeast of the valley of Romaine extend the forest-covered heights of Mailley with Bois de la Cote, Les Foulnières and Bois des Rêpes. At 437 m is reached the highest elevation of Fondremand in the Bois de la Cote. Apart from the Romaine there are no surface streams because the rain water seeps into the karst underground.

To Fondremand the hamlet of Les Roselières (290 m) is in the headwaters of the Tounolle. Neighboring communities of Fondremand are Maizières and Mailley -et- Chazelot in the north, Hyet in the east, Trésilley, Montarlot -lès- Rioz and cordonnet in the south and Villers -Bouton and Recologne -lès- Rioz in the West.

History

Remains of a Gallo-Roman traffic route and a burial ground from the Merovingian period ( 6th century ) point to an early settlement of the municipality. The settlement Fondremand probably originated in the 11th century. They quickly became a parish seat and fortified boroughs. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. In 1385 came Fondremand in the possession of the Lords of Neuchatel, and formed for a long time the center of a barony. In the 17th century the village was repeatedly drawn by wars and plague epidemics affected. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Fondremand is a member of the 28 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

Fondremand has preserved its townscape in the style of a typical village of Franche -Comté and has been awarded the label " Petite Cité Morbier of Character ". Many citizens of the houses date from the 15th to the 18th century and are equipped with turrets, staircase towers, coats of arms and richly decorated walls, including the Hôtel Maublanc (late 14th century, in 1912 restored ) in the late Gothic style and the Maison Naudon in the Renaissance style.

Among the oldest, little change churches in Haute -Saône counts the Church of Fondremand, which was built in the period from the 11th to the 13th century. While the tower is held in the Romanesque style, unite in the ship Romanesque and Gothic styles. For the rich interior furnishings are from the 17th and 18th centuries as well as numerous statues ( 16th to 18th century).

The castle was originally developed from a building of the 12th century. From this time the mighty Romanesque donjon is obtained, which houses a museum about the local history. The other castle buildings date from the 16th to the 18th century. The Donjon dominates the combined source of Romaine. The circular pool was originally a cattle trough and sink. It was built in 1831 equipped with a gazebo in the neoclassical style. Additional attractions include a former oil mill.

Population

With 180 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Fondremand to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 371 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Fondremand was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), forestry and embossed by commerce and trade village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Also the hospitality and tourist facilities contribute to the income of the villagers. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. Every year in July, the Journées Artisanales et Artistiques be performed.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Grandvelle after Rioz. Further road links exist with Recologne -lès- Rioz Oiselay -et- Grachaux and Hyet.
