Brad Werenka

John Bradley Werenka ( born February 12, 1969 in Two Hills, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, and in his time from 1984 to 2001 among others for the Edmonton Oilers, Nordiques de Québec, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins Calgary Flames played in the National Hockey League.

Career

Brad Werenka began his career as a hockey player with the Fort Saskatchewan Traders, for which he was active from 1984 to 1986 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Then he visited five years the Northern Michigan University, for their hockey team he played parallel to his studies in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 in the second round than a total of 42 players from the Edmonton Oilers. For their farm team Cape Breton Oilers, he played from 1991 to 1994 in the American Hockey League, where he won in the 1992/93 season with his team to the Calder Cup. For Edmonton itself, he completed during this period 42 NHL games. In March 1994 he was released to the Nordiques de Québec in exchange for Steve Passmore within the NHL. By the end of the 1993/94 season he was eleven times for the Nordiques in the NHL on the ice as he spent the playoffs in their AHL farm team Cornwall Royals. In the season 1994/95 he joined the Milwaukee Admirals in the International Hockey League.

From 1995 to 1997 Werenka played for the Indianapolis Ice in the IHL. In the 1995/96 season he also completed nine NHL games with their partners Chicago Blackhawks. During the 1996/97 season he was one Zuden guide players in the Indianapolis Ice. For the team, he completed all 82 games of the regular season and showed consistent and good at, for which he was awarded the Ironman Award of IHL. In addition, he received the Governor's Trophy as the best defender of the League and was elected to the first All-Star team of the IHL. From 1997 to 2000, the Canadian was a regular player in the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. In March 2000, he was delivered to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Tyler Moss and Rene Corbet. There he was in the aftermath also a regular player, but had his career after a serious concussion that he suffered on 29 December 2000 in a game against the Dallas Stars, prematurely.

In the season 2006/ 07 Werenka worked as an assistant coach for the Chilliwack Bruins of the Canadian junior Western Hockey League.

Internationally

For Canada Werenka participated in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer part where he won the silver medal with his team.
