Branná

Branná, until 1948 Kolštejn ( German Goldstein ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers east of Staré Město and belongs to Okres Šumperk.

Geography

Branná located between the Bielen and Altvatergebirge in gold Steiner Bergland right side above the river Branná (Central board Bach). To the east rise the Trojak ( Schlegel, 1044 m), Polom ( 1126 m), Cerna stráň ( Black Leithe, 1236 m) and Stolny hřbet ( Stolle ridge, 882 m). North of the village there are bunker lines of the Czechoslovak Walls.

Neighboring towns are Kronfelzov and Adamov to the north, and Ostružná Splav in the northeast, Zadnà Alojzov, Přední Alojzov and Nová Branná in the east, Františkov and Nové Losiny in the south, Vikantice the southeast, Šléglov the east and Hajmrlov and Malé Vrbno in the Northeast.

Geology

In Branna the gold Steiner marble was obtained, which was appreciated as a valuable decorative stone already in the time of the monarchy because of its remarkable gray banded structure image and fine-grained microstructure. In stratigraphic terms, this marble is in the Devonian Vrbenská group ( Brannáer aliasing ) from Moravo - Silesikum classified.

History

Goldstein was founded around 1282. Situated on an ancient trade route to Silesia place was mentioned in 1301 along with the castle as a possession of the knight Hanß of Wustehube on peace mountain for the first time in writing. 1325 rose Margrave Charles of Moravia Goldstein for free mining town. In the Valley of Branná existed at that time iron hammers and on the gold tip located east of the valley was dug for gold and silver. When Hussites of 1423 the last silver mine in operation was devastated. 1437 acquired the gentlemen Zvolský Zvole the town and named after him as of Zwole and Goldstein. 1570 Goldstein was awarded market rights. From 1575 Goldstein belonged to the lords of Zierotin and in 1581 bought Hynko the Elder of Vrbno Freudenthal and the town. The heirs Hynko the younger of Vrbno sold Goldstein 1615 Johann Peter forest. This lost after the Battle of White Mountain in 1622 received its goods and Karl von Liechtenstein Goldstein as fiefs. 1771 lived 706 people in the city. Under Alois of Liechtenstein Aloisdorf the village was founded in 1783 and named after the prince.

In the great fire of 1850 next to the City Archives, the church was destroyed. After the abolition of patrimonial Goldstein / Koldštýn formed in 1850 with the districts Aloisdorf / Aloisov, brass hammer / Mosazné Hamry and basic / Grunt a town in Moravia Schoenberg. In the second half of the 19th century was carried out by the graphite works Buhl- Alberti AG in Moravian Old Town is a resumption of the extinct mining. Between Kronfelsthal and Schlogel village a graphite Tolln was created. 1888 took the train from Hannsdorf after Ziegenhals to the operation. 1921 was the Czech name Kolštejn and the population was 911, including 16 were Czechs. 1925 burned the castle again. In 1930, Goldstein had 1331 inhabitants, of whom 1239 belonged to the German ethnic group, the remaining 72 were Czechs. After the Munich Agreement in 1938, the city was added to the German Reich and belonged until 1945 to the district Moravian Schönberg. In 1939 the town had 1180 inhabitants. After the end of the Second World War, the German inhabitants were expelled. In 1946 it was renamed the community Kolštejn in Branná and the population dropped to 421 in 1948, the city rights were not renewed.
