Breil-sur-Roya

Breil- sur -Roya is a commune of the French department of Alpes- Maritimes. It is located in the Maritime Alps at 350 m altitude at the Roya River, near the border with Italy and about 20 kilometers from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Breil- sur -Roya is home to 2415 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

By 1860 the place was called Breglio and belonged to the Kingdom of Sardinia until this along with Savoy ceded the county of Nice to France.

In Breil- sur -Roya, the node station between the two branches of Tendabahn. Through the village the road also leads to Tendapass. Breil- sur -Roya is a stage point on GR 52A, the Sentier Panoramique du Mercantour and the Via Alpina.
