Gorbio

Gorbio is a commune with 1294 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. The inhabitants are called Gorbarins.

Gorbio is a typical " Village Perché " (mountain village), it lies between the southern locations Roquebrune and Menton on the Mediterranean and Sainte -Agnès, a lying further to the northeast mountain village in the French Alps. It is not yet off the beaten track.

In Gorbio is a dialect spoken Occitan niçois, in contrast to the neighboring communities of Roquebrune and Menton, where the Ligurian Monegasque is spoken.

South of the town the auto route runs A8 (La Provençale ), due to the nature of the mountainous terrain partially viaducts, partly through tunnels.
