Peillon

Peillon ( Peilhon in Provençal and Peglione in Italian) is a municipality of East- Provence in France in the Alpes -Maritimes near Nice and Monaco, and a " Village Perché ", a mountain village or eagle's nest. Peillon has 1410 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) on a municipal area of about 9 km ². The most elevated houses are located at 720 m altitude. After Monaco, it is the center of the township about 30 km away and Nice 21 km away. The foundation of the town dates back to the 10th century.

Peillon situated on a promontory, surrounded by a deep ravine. The streets of the community are partly connected by stairs. In the municipality there are a campground and two smaller ones.

Peillon is a major stage in the new long-distance footpath Via Alpina. Since the location is quite remote, he remained so far largely spared from the big tourist crowds.
