Brevik Line

The railway line Eidanger - Brevik ( norw Brevikbanen ) is a ten- kilometer-long railway line in Telemark in Norway. It led originally by Eidanger up to Brevik.

History

The railway line Eidanger - Brevik was built 1892-1895 in the track width of 1067 mm. The Umspurung standard gauge took place in 1921. Since 1949 the track is electrified.

The first passenger on the track in the summer of 1895 with trains from Skien to Nystrand, even before the route to Brevik was ready. The trains were called badetoget ( Badezug ) so that the newly built cottages were opened along the Eidangerfjordes. The opening of the line was made by King Oscar II on 15 October 1895. Passenger on the total distance ended in 1968. Railway Station in Brevik was closed on 1 December 1982. Built in 1917 station building is a listed building and is now used by the Telemark Museum and the Porsgrunnsmuseene Foundation.

Since then, only goods trains on the track, as a rule Kalkzüge for cement factory of the company Norcem in Orvik. For these trains different locomotives were used, including the types of electric locomotives El 8 El 11 and El 13 It always ran a locomotive at each end of the train. 1993 Grenlandsterminalen was constructed and attached to the route. The traffic on this route was very low and the operation was reinstated in 2000. 2009 drove NorthSea Terminal trial with empty container trucks to the terminal. New import locomotives were also delivered via this quay.
