Brezová pod Bradlom

Brezová pod Bradlom (up to 1927 Slovak " Brezová "; German birch grove, Hungarian Berezo - to 1907 Brezova ) is a city in western Slovakia.

Location and General Description

The town was first mentioned in 1262 and is located approximately 23 kilometers east of Senica, and 12 km south of the district town Myjava at the northern end of the Little Carpathians. The town received its charter in 1709. Mid-19th century, the city was a center of the followers of Ľudovít Štúr 1848-1849 and one of the centers of the Slovak uprising.

The " mountain" is the Bradlo ( 543 meters).

In the immediate vicinity, in Košariská, is the birthplace of Milan Rastislav Stefanik, a Slovak politician and general of the First World War. This was (built 1927-1928 ) after his death in 1919 in a designed by the famous architect Dusan Jurkovic cenotaph on the Bradlo buried.

Attractions

  • Catholic Church with fixings on 1590th It was originally built by Protestants, but lost this church twice in the course of its history to the Catholics (see Counter Reformation ). Inside you will find a rococo style of in 1773.
