Brislach

Brislach (Basel German: Brislech ) is a municipality in the district of Laufen in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

The rural community located about 20 kilometers southwest of the city of Basel, at the beginning of Lüsseltals. The area of the municipality is 939 hectares, of which 53% agricultural land, 39 % forest, 8% settlements.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms from 1946 shows two red lilies crossed sticks on golden background. The coat of arms belonged to the family " Ramstein ", whose original name " of Brislach " (cf. also with the coat of arms of Bretzwil, Nunningen, Zullwil and clamps ).

History

The first mention of Brislach dates from the year 1144 Brislacho. By the end of the 19th century it was a purely farming village whose houses attracted exclusively to the main-road. About a dozen farms has left over that are for the most part outside of the village center. The rest of the village consists mainly of residential areas and isolated companies. In 1994 Brislach as one of 13 municipalities in the canton of Bern Laufen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. In the last 15 years has grown Brislach terms of population by 40 percent.

Economy

Major lines of business are small businesses and agriculture. In Brislach is a major electrical sub-station, the city Basel supplies, among others, with energy. About the responsibility of electrical systems such as sub-stations and transmission lines, there were legal problems because the district running from the Canton of Bern went to the Canton of Basel-Land.
