Bruno Saby

Bruno Saby ( born February 23, 1949 in Grenoble ) is a French former rally, rallycross and rally raid driver.

His first participation in the World Rally Championship was in 1973 at the Monte Carlo Rally. In 1978, he won the French Rallycross Championship in a Renault Alpine A110 in 1600. 1981, he was in a Renault 5 Turbo French Rally Champion. His first victory in the World Rally Championship in 1986 in a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 E2 in the Rally of Corsica, in which Henri Toivonen and co-driver Sergio Cresto fatally injured in their Lancia Delta S4. His second and last victory came in a 1988 Lancia Delta 4WD at the Rallye Monte Carlo. In 1988 he was in the French Rallycross Championship runner-up behind Guy Fréquelin.

From 1992 Saby took part in marathon rallies. As early as 1992 he won the Atlas - Morocco Rally. In 1993 he won in a Mitsubishi Dakar Rally. In the following years, he was several times about to achieve victory. In 1996 he won the UAE Desert Challenge. In 2004 he was factory driver at Volkswagen Motorsport and won in 2005 with co-driver Michel Perin the Rally Por las Pampas. He was the first driver of a Race Touareg, who won a rally. 2005 Saby won the Marathon Rally World Cup for themselves. The 2006 Dakar Rally, he finished in eighth place after he finished fifth in the previous year. Then drove Saby two years as a factory driver from Fiat in an underpowered Fiat Panda 4x4. In 2008 he went as a substitute driver for X-Raid after her driver Colin McRae died in a helicopter crash. The 2008 Dakar Rally was canceled, however. Instead Saby took part in the Central Europe Rally, where he finished sixth. In July 2008, Saby joined at the age of 59 years retired from racing.
