Bučovice

Bučovice ( German Butschowitz ) is a town with 6450 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) in the Czech Republic. It is located 230 m above sea level 40 km east of Brno in the Litava and belongs to the Okres Vyškov on.

History

The first written record comes from the year 1322. During the second half of the 16th century, the then ruler of Johann Schembera Boskovic could create a Renaissance castle, which is one of the most important buildings in the region. Builder was the imperial architect Jacopo Strada. On the design of famous artists such as Hans Mont were involved. From 1597 to 1945 the castle belonged to the Prince of Liechtenstein.

The town was featured heavily during the Thirty Years' War. To a new boom came in the 18th century, when the textile industry was settled. Following the decline in the textile industry, furniture industry moved on.
