History

Origin

The fortified Art Street ( highway ) between Seesen and Osterode was built from 1785 to 1795 as an extension of the Frankfurt street and called Thüringerstraße.

The National Highway 243, between Hildesheim and Nordhausen was established around 1937.

This national highway was interrupted by the German division and is only since November 18, 1989 back -end accessible, as a border crossing between Nüxei and Mackenrode was established.

Expansion plans

The B 243 is to be laid between the node with the B 27 and the AS Großwechsungen (A 38) or four lanes. This is done so the places are relieved from the local through traffic.

Traffic unit II (Ring Road and Barbis Osterhagen )

The RLO II is a 8.6 km long bypass. It starts at the junction with the B27 Barbis (AS Bad Loud Mountain West) and ends at the AS Bad Sachsa West. Important parts of this section include the angle viaduct (650 m ) and the Oder Bridge ( 528 m). In addition to the viaducts above still occur six underpasses and an overpass and a pedestrian and cycle bridge. The above measures have a total of 2.2 km long connections are built. The zoning decision was rendered on 30 December 2005. On October 30, 2008 was the start of construction. The completion was originally planned for fall 2012. The construction of this transport unit cost 60.2 million euros. In the summer of 2013, it was announced that the construction work will probably be completed at this transport unit until August 2014.

Traffic Unit III ( Lower Saxon part of the bypass Mackenrode )

The RLO III begins on Baukilometer 19,350 ( end RLO II ) and ends south of Tettenborn on the border between Lower Saxony and Thuringia ( Baukilometer 22.985 ). It has a length of 3.655 km. The introduction of the planning approval process was on 12 September 2008., The zoning decision was delivered on 20 November 2009. It is expected that construction will start after finishing the RLO II. It is (RQ 10.5 here ) built except in a conservation area in the RQ 15.5 (2-1 System). Must also 1.239 km ports, 5 underpasses (total length: 40.5 m) As part of this traffic unit: be built and a PWC - conditioning, an overpass ( 20.5 m length). Also, the L must be 604 installed on a short section, here is a green bridge will be built.

Traffic unit IV ( Thuringian part of the bypass Mackenrode )

The RLO IV begins at the border of Lower Saxony and Thuringia and ends at the AS Mackenrode. This short section, together with the RLO III bypass Mackenrode. The introduction of the planning approval process was the same day as if RLO III (12 September 2008)

Traffic unit V (connection to the A 38 )

The RLO V begins at the old K 4, now B243 north of Großwechsungen. In this traffic unit are five bridges (total length: 109.76 m) runs east of Großwechsungen in direction A 38 There she meets in a triangle ( left- trumpet) on the A 38 is running a four-lane ( road width RQ20 ). This 3.5 km long traffic unit cost 19 million euros.

The zoning decision was on 18 October 2005. Construction began on 21 August 2009. The opening of this part of the piece took place on December 5, 2012.

Bypass Herzberg

After the completion of all phases of construction, the city Herzberg will continue to be burdened by a through road which then between A 7 and A 38 without crossing -developed B 243 only. For those yet to be realized bypass still no decision on the pipeline route was taken. This scheduling delay is not least due to opposition from Herzberg itself. The city Herzberg asked in the course of preparation of the next Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan for the classification of the bypass as first priority needs. This is supported by the district of Osterode. The plan is a 4 - streaky course without a hard shoulder.
