Burkinabé Premier League

The Première Division is the top division of the national football championship of the West African country of Burkina Faso ( Upper Volta until 1984 ).

Since independence from France in 1960, a competition will be hosted, with the exception of the years when it came to a coup to political turmoil in 1981 and 1982. First Master was ASF Bobo- Dioulasso, current title holder is ASFA Yennenga Ouagadougou. The game operation of the comprehensive 14-team league is deficient and is funded by the Ministry of Sport.

History

Football is played proven since 1935 in what is now Burkina Faso. The clubs were involved in colonial structures and participated in the 1950s in the Coupe d' AOF, the cup competition of the colonial federation of French West Africa. After independence from France in 1960 immediately a national championship for the new state of Upper Volta was created. First champion was ASF Bobo- Dioulasso. In 1964 USFRAN Bobo-Dioulasso the first successful title defense.

1974 Championship on the basis of regional selections was created by a decision of the Minister for Sport Félix Tiemtarboum that should play instead of club teams for the national title. The goal was to join forces in order to be successful in the continental club competitions. This decision led to polemics and informed public opinion. With seven titles in a row, the Silures Bobo-Dioulasso were more successful than the rival club selection Kadiogo Ouagadougou that was the end of the 1970s by the German Otto Pfister, who also acted as coach, coached. With some success, this system also led to frustration among the heads of the various clubs and had no future. The seasons in 1981 and 1982 did not take place due to political turmoil. In the ten years between 1985 and 1994 Étoile Filante Ouagadougou won eight league titles.

Since 1999, ASFA Yennenga Ouagadougou dominant force with eight league titles until 2011.

Season 2011/12

Transitional play this season 20 teams in two regional groups of ten teams. The three or four winners play in a Super Division of the Masters 2012 from the three last placed each group are demoted and replaced by two second division. Thus, the season will be 2012/12 contested by 16 teams.

After the start of the season had shifted mainly for financial reasons, the 1st Round for the February 18, 2012 was set. Since the clubs but refused to come to the games, the start of the season was moved to first indefinite period. The clubs came to compete before the holding of a General Meeting on 10 March.
