Busquístar

Busquístar is a municipality in the Spanish province of Granada in southern Andalusia. The town is located 1,160 m above sea level at the Rio Trévelez in the Alpujarras, one of the Sierra Nevada in the south upstream mountainous region. Busquístar had 265 inhabitants on 1 January 2013, the white-painted houses were built in the Moorish style. They have flat roofs and the typical round fireplaces, which are mainly used for drying corn cobs and peppers bundles. Tourists will find three small bars, two supermarkets, a bakery and two restaurants. Buquístar in In the health center every morning a doctor is present.

History

The word Alpujarras comes from Arabic and means meadows. The first reports on the Alpujarras there since the Arab population from 711 by the arrival Berber. They terraced the land and developed a sophisticated irrigation system. In the 13th century, the ruling from Granada Nazari divided the region into Taha's called large municipal districts and fortified them with castles and towers. Buquístar belonged to the Taha de Ferreira and from 1499 to the Taha de Orgiva. About 4 km southwest of Buquístar are the remains of an old Moorish settlement and mosque called La Mezquita ( The Mosque dt ). Built on a 1,200 m high mountain buildings date from the period between the 8th and 14th centuries and its inhabitants were probably the ancestors of today's population of Busquístar. In the early 20th century, the area surrounding the former mosque was examined for buried treasure. For this purpose, carried over 20 meters deep excavations. In order to secure the area, it was placed under state protection in 2007 and declared Sitio Historico de la Alpujarra (German Historic site of the Alpujarras ).
