Geography

Buttlar is located at 260 m above sea level. NN in Ulster near the border with Hesse in the Thuringian Rhön. To the west of the village Stan mountain rises. To the east lies the 425 m high mountain Michel and south of the valley of the Bermbachs runs through the towns of Bermbach and Mieswarz.

Community structure

Buttlar consists of the districts Buttlar, Bermbach and Wenigentaft. Borbels has 24 inhabitants and Mieswarz 32 inhabitants, there are hamlets and have no status as a district.

Incorporations

The above-mentioned districts were merged with effect from 25 March 1994 on the newly formed community Buttlar.

History

Buttlar

Buttlar is an old village in the Official fuldisches Geysa, which belongs to Saxony -Weimar -Eisenach only since 1815. Named after the city nobility of Buttlar came first documented in 1170 with Hartnid de Butelir on. In 1233 Johann de Buttlar appeared as fuldaischer Marshall and Hartung 1246 de Buttlar as co-founders of the monastery fuldaischen Mariental.

In 1955, 706 residents lived in the town.

Bermbach

The village is located on the same Bermbach stream at an altitude of 300-350 m above sea level. NN and was first mentioned in 1329. The church is a building of 1882, the baptismal font dating from 1610, was incorporated from the previous church. In 1955, 416 residents lived in the district Bermbach.

Palace Buttlar

Village school from 1870

  • Church The construction of the present church took place from 1872 to 1876 in the Romanesque Revival style, after the previous church was burned down. Since at that time the pastor of Buttlar had to also supply Bermbach and Vacha next Wenigentaft, the church building became too big. 1903 were therefore mutually bricked vestries in the choir area and moved into the apse wall in the choir room. The construction could be completed, but it was missing the entire device. On the initiative of the then parish priest Faber the baroque high altar in the collegiate church of Amoeneburg and to the two confessionals were acquired. The side altars of St. Mary and St. Joseph are from the nuns Church Fulda, as well as the baroque pulpit. Eyecatcher is the baroque high altar. The central image, carved in half-relief, represents Jesus' baptism in the Jordan dar. In the Oval is the Beheading of John the Baptist to be seen. On both sides of the altarpiece are the standing figures of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Side of the upper image are more prophetic figures. In the cafeteria is the tabernacle. The organ dates from 1874 and was built by Tabarzer organ builder Guido knob; since November 2008, is being restored by the Moritzburg organ workshop Rühle.
  • Michael's Chapel on the Mountain Michel is the hermitage of Michel chapel. It was built in 1714.
  • School right next to the church is the former school for several years in private ownership.
  • Castle The castle was a water castle and belonged to the family of Buttlar whose members are as ministers, military officers and courtiers in Fulda and Hesse played a role. Since a few years back and completely renovated privately owned, today is apartments are rented.

Economy and infrastructure

2003 17 farms were reported, the use of 210 hectares for agricultural purposes.

Through the community run the following cycle routes:

  • The railway cycle path leads from Hessen Hanau on former railway tracks about 250 km through the Vogelsberg and Rhön and ends in Bad Hersfeld.
  • The Ulster Cycle Path as part of the Rhön cycleway. This has a total length of 180 km and runs from Bad Salzungen to Hammelburg, through all three states of the Rhön: Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia.
