Location

Weilar is located about two kilometers south of Stadtlengsfeld on the northeastern edge of the Thuringian Rhön and flows through the Felda. The country road in 1022 affected the village.

History

First mentioned in a document of the place is in 1153rd In old deeds and documents from that time, he is also called Wyler or Wylere. The Castle of Weilar stood on the site of the castle. 1153 also Ministerialengeschlecht Weilar was first mentioned. The ownership changed constantly, so Weilar once belonged to the monastery of Hersfeld and later to the monastery of Fulda. The coat of arms was designed by Uwe heraldist Reipert. The coat of arms of the municipality Weilar is split twice: the front, a square of silver and black, mid green in a stylized, quite turned margined, silver lily of the valley with 4 petals, back in a black silver cross of St. Andrew. The silver / black square is the family crest of the Boine Petersburg taken, whose family history was associated almost half a millennium with the village and its surroundings. The lily of the valley symbolizes the location of the village in the Thuringian Rhön front with its rich flora. The St. Andrew's cross found its way into the coat of arms as a symbol of the Protestant church built in the place which bears the name of the Apostle Andrew.

The place is dominated by agriculture and tourism. A former hydroelectric plant is cultivated as a pension.

Traffic

Weilar is located on the regional road in 1022, which leads from Dorndorf to the main road and after 285 Dermbach. Weilar had a breakpoint at the Feldabahn ( Dorndorf - Kaltennordheim ). The line was closed in the 1990s and dismantled the track between Weilar and Kaltennordheim in 2008.
