Calumpit, Bulacan

Calumpit is a town in the Philippine province of Bulacan. In 2010 it counted 101 068 inhabitants. In the West Calumpit borders the province of Pampanga.

In the municipality there is also the oldest church in Bulacan. The St. John the Baptist Church was built in 1572. The Augustinian Diego Vivar - Ordonez oversaw the construction of the church. Inside the church is a tunnel that was a legend used by priests during the Spanish regime to hide gold, statues and jewelry from the treasure robbers. 1899 Calumpit was briefly the seat of government of the first Philippine Republic.
