Calvin Jackson

Calvin Jackson ( born May 26, 1919 in Philadelphia, † December 9, 1985 in Encinitas, California ) was an American jazz pianist and film composer and orchestrator -.

Calvin Jackson's mother was a classical singer; he studied, inter alia, at the Juilliard School and New York University. He began his career at Frankie Fairfax, before moving up in 1947 as deputy musical director from 1943 worked in Hollywood in the MGM Studios, inter alia, for the film Holiday in Hollywood. Recordings were made with Phil Moore ( 1947) and six titles under his own name, which he recorded as a soloist for Discovery Records.

1948 Jackson appeared as a sideman by Mildred Bailey at New York's Café Society. In 1950 he settled in Toronto, where he appeared in television and radio broadcasts. In 1957, he returned to Los Angeles and worked primarily as a composer for film and television. The written with Jack Elliott, Robert Armbruster, Leo Arnaud, Jack Hayes and Leo Shuken music to Gold Digger- 1965 Molly received an Oscar nomination. Recordings were made under his own name for the label Vik and Columbia ( in 1954/55, including with Peter Appleyard ), Liberty ( Jazz Variations On Gershwin 's Rhapsody in Blue in 1958, with Al Viola and Mel Lewis), Raynote (1959) and Reprise Records ( 1961).
