Camerata Salzburg

The Camerata Salzburg (formerly Camerata Academica of the Mozarteum Salzburg Camerata Academica Salzburg or ) is a beheimatetes in Salzburg Chamber Orchestra.

History

The Camerata was founded in 1952 by Bernhard Paumgartner as Camerata Academica of the Mozarteum Salzburg. Paumgartner called teachers and students of the Salzburg Mozarteum School of Music at the Community music-making. The Hungarian pianist Géza Anda, who also conducted in personal union, the Camerata realized in the years 1961-1970, the first gramophone recording of the complete piano concertos of Mozart. After Paumgartners death 1971 1974 Antonio Janigro took over the management of the Camerata. This year there was also the first series of subscription concerts that take place today. From 1978 until his death in 1997, the famous violinist and violin teacher Sándor Végh was chief conductor. He coined most probably the style and sound of the Camerata and is largely responsible for its international recognition. Under Végh line known as the " Camerata " a term was in the music world. Following Sir Roger Norrington, who was from 1997 to 2006 chief conductor of the Camerata Salzburg and the orchestra with ongoing ties to Honorary Conductor. From the 2001/2002 bis 2006 season was Leonidas Kavakos Principal Guest Artist with the Camerata Salzburg, from 2007 to 2009 its artistic director. From 2011 until the season 2015/16 taken over by the French conductor Louis Langrée the position of chief conductor of the chamber orchestra.

Concerts

Every year, the Camerata Salzburg are about 80 concerts all over the world. Thus, the orchestra performed among others in Russia, Japan, Mexico, almost all countries in Europe, Central Asia and South America. Regularly, the Camerata Salzburg plays at the Salzburg Festival, the Mozart Week in Salzburg, are five double - subscription concerts per season in Salzburg and programmed together with the Vienna concert house concerts.

At the Salzburg Festival in 2011, the Camerata Salzburg played for the first time under Kent Nagano.
