Camila Vallejo

Camila Antonia Amaranta Vallejo Dowling ( born April 28, 1988 in Santiago ) is a politician of the Communist Party of Chile. She was leader of the student movement in Chile and geography student at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Universidad de Chile ( German: University of Chile ). She is a member of the Central Committee of the Juventudes Comunistas de Chile ( Partido Comunista de Youth Association of Chile). Camila Vallejo was in 2010 and 2011, the President of the Federación de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Chile (short fech, Student Federation of the University of Chile ). She was also one of the speakers of the Confederación de Estudiantes de Chile (short Confech, Association of Students of the traditional universities of Chile ) during the student protests of 2011. Since November 2013, it is a member of the Chilean parliament.

Life

Camila Vallejo is the daughter of Reinaldo Vallejo and Mariela Dowling. Both were in the 1970s, members of the Communist Party of Chile. It is non-denominational.

Camila Vallejo grew up in Macul and La Florida on both parts of the city of Santiago de Chile, and attended the Colegio Raimapu, a private school in La Florida. In 2006, she enrolled at the Universidad de Chile in a study in geography. In 2007, she was a member of the youth organization of the Communist Party of Chile. In 2008 she was a counselor to the Fechner, who presided as President from November 2010 to November 2011. She was thus the second woman to hold this office after Marisol Prado (1997-1998).

In 2011, Vallejo aroused public interest as a spokesperson and leader of the Chilean student protests (along with Giorgio Jackson, the student leader of the Student Federation of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and Camilo Ballesteros, the student leader of the Student Federation of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile).
