Capital Department, Corrientes

The Departamento Capital is in the northwest of the province of Corrientes in the north- eastern Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

In the north and west it borders, separated by the Paraná River, the province of Chaco, on the east by the departments of San Cosme and San Luis del Palmar and on the south by the Departamento Empedrado.

The capital of the department capital is the city of Corrientes. With the neighboring province of Corrientes Chaco is connected by the bridge Puente General Manuel Belgrano. The distance between Corrientes and Buenos Aires is 1060 km.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population increased from 328 868 inhabitants (2001) to 398 844 inhabitants in 2005.

The Departamento Capital is divided into two municipalities Corrientes and Riachuelo. In the two communities following villages are:
