Carla Suárez Navarro

Carla Suárez Navarro ( born September 3, 1988 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) is a Spanish tennis player.

Career

Suárez Navarro, who prefers playing on clay, began at the age of nine with the sport of tennis. In 2003, she became a professional player, since 2005 she has been working with the Spanish tennis federation together. In order to train at a tennis academy, she moved in 2007 from the Canary Islands to Barcelona. Since 2008 it belongs to the Spanish Fed Cup team.

2008-2010

Suárez Navarro was able to move into the quarter-finals with their first appearance at the French Open. After three qualifying matches, they defeated in round two, the former number 1 in the WTA world rankings, Amélie Mauresmo, 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Jelena Janković of the Serb 3:6, 2:6. At Wimbledon, followed by the off in round two, again to Janković.

At the Australian Open 2009 in Melbourne Suárez Navarro defeated in round two the set at position 6 U.S. American Venus Williams. 2011-2013

In Auckland and Melbourne in 2011, they said goodbye to each in round two. After their quarter finals of Acapulco they had to pause because of elbow injury a few months. In her comeback she failed to qualify at Wimbledon, contributing to other tournaments she said then injury from.

At the clay court tournament in Barcelona in 2012, she reached the semi-final, which they lost to the later tournament champion Sara Errani in two straight sets. At the French Open, she reached the third round; the antretenden for Kazakhstan Yaroslava Shvedova defeated them there in two tight sets. At Wimbledon, the blow came already in round one.

On April 8, 2013, it achieved a new personal best with position 19 in the WTA world rankings. This makes it the currently highest ranked Spanish tennis player. At the U.S. Open she struggled, inter alia, with wins about Zheng Jie and Angelique Kerber to the quarter finals but had to accept against defending champion Serena Williams a bitter lesson - they lost with 0:6 and 0:6.
