Carlos Cardús

Carlos Cardús i Carrio ( born September 29, 1959 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain ) is a former Spanish motorcycle racer.

Cardús launched in its entire motorcycle world championship career in the 250 cc class and was the 1990 season behind John Kocinski Vice World Champion.

Career

Carlos Cardús began his career in the Spanish motorcycle road championship. In 1981, he finished fourth in the 250 cc class, 1982 Spanish 250cc champion. The following year he took, in addition to the national championship, even at the 250 cc European part.

His debut in the motorcycle world championship he gave the Grand Prix of South Africa in 1983 at Kyalami on a JJ Cobas -Rotax, but did not reach the target. In the rest of the season, in which he played almost all the World Championship races, Cardús took ninth place at his home Grand Prix at Jarama in the single count of the season. The Spaniard started up in 1985 to Cobas -Rotax, but reached this front places in the 250cc class. In 1986, he first went to Honda at the start, but remained similar to normal.

In the 1987 season, Carlos Cardús the breakthrough. He won the Spanish Team HRC Honda NSR Ducados at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans, finishing third his first podium. Later in Czechoslovakia and Brazil followed by other third places, which earned him a total of 70 points in fifth World Cup overall standings. 1988 reached Cardús no podium and was WM- ninth. In the 1989 season, Carlos Cardús succeeded, now on a Honda Team HRC Repsol starting, the Grand Prix of France his first Grand Prix victory. The 1990 season was the most successful in Cardús ' World Cup career. He won on Honda in Yugoslavia, France, Czechoslovakia and Sweden, reaching a total of nine podium finishes in 15 races. The World Cup decision was between him and the U.S. Yamaha riders John Kocinski at the last race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Iceland, had gone while leading the championship in the Cardús. The Spaniards would have sufficed to come second behind Kocinski the finish, but he fell out due to a broken gear shift lever, while the Americans won the race. Cardús was ultimately vice-champion.

1991 was for Cardús as successful as the previous year. He started to continue for the Repsol Honda team, though could not win a Grand Prix, but drove eleven podiums in 15 races and had to be in the World Cup overall standings only the Italians Luca Cadalora and Helmut Bradl beaten from Germany. 1992 won Cardús with second place in Australia his last podium in the 250cc World Championship, in the overall standings he finished in eighth place. In the 1993 season, the Spaniard played only six Grands Prix and finished the season end his career in the Motorcycle World Championship.

In 1994, Carlos went on Cardús Ducati in two races of the Superbike World Championship in Albacete at the start, in which he ranks 13 and eight occupied.
