Do it again, Columbus is the 30th and final film of the Carry-on ... film series.
Action
The cartographer Christopher Columbus want to find a sea route to India. He finds support for the King and Queen of Spain. However, the project to the Turkish Sultan, the ' ship smuggles a saboteur on board Columbus because he would check with the success of the journey not the trade routes from Asia to Europe and so might require high tariffs no longer dislike. Despite all the explorers reach their goal - but they must realize that they are neither alone are his preferred destination.
Appreciation
14 years after the last film in the series to date came with Mach 's again, Columbus later a latecomer in the cinema, but flopped. Thought he was as a satirical response to the two major productions in 1492 - Conquest of Paradise and Christopher Columbus - The Discovery that also in 1992 the 500th anniversary of the rediscovery of America came into the cinemas.
Apart from Jim Dale in the lead role and Leslie Phillips and Jack Douglas in supporting roles were no known Carry-on ... faces the front row, which was due to the fact that in the meantime many of them had died. With June Whitfield, Peter Gilmore, Jon Pertwee and Bernard Cribbins, however, were some of the actors of the second row on board. The title role should not even take root Starring Jim Dale first, was intended Robbie Coltrane, who, however, canceled.
The attempt to revive the series again failed due to the poor audience response. After the death of director Gerald Thomas in 1993 moved a survival of the series further and further away and was finally alone in the hands of the producer Peter Rogers, who died in 2009.
