Çatalca

Çatalca is the county seat of the eponymous district of İstanbul Turkish province on the European side. The district had Çatalca according to the last census 62 339 inhabitants (as of December 2008).

History

Çatalca conquered the I. in 1371 by Sultan Beyazit and received by the conquistadors in the new name " Çatalburgaz ". End of the 16th century was the Grand Vizier Ferhad Pasha Çatalca expand and constructed Mimar Sinan the Ferhad Pasha Mosque. During the First Balkan War 1912-1913 east was the front line ( the Çatalca line) between the Bulgarian and Ottoman army. In the storming of Constantine Opel, against the will of the Chief of Staff Ivan Fitschew, the Bulgarian army was stopped at the Battle of Çatalca. By 1924 the population was mixed, but predominantly Greek. Istanbul draws its drinking water to a large extent from the Büyükçekmece Reservoir in Çatalca. Until 1926 Çatalca was an independent province. Commission Regulation of 26 June 1926 was downgraded to a county and joined the Istanbul province.
