CeBIT (acronym for Center for office automation, information technology and telecommunications, originally Centrum office and information technology) is the world's largest trade fair for information technology and has been held since 1986 every spring at the fairgrounds Hannover. Organizer of CeBIT is the German Messe AG ( DMAG ).

The Hanover Fair, held since 1947, since 1950 housed the the "Office Industry", which was advancing to 1959 in terms of number of exhibitors to third place among all the exhibiting industries.
1969/70, built by the architect Ernst Friedrich Brockmann, Hall 1 at CeBIT - " Centre of Office and Information technology", which was inaugurated in 1970. This newly built hall in the north- east of the fairgrounds was recorded as " world's largest exhibition hall " 1984 Guinness Book of Records. She offered to 2007:

The seating capacity of the huge hall 1 were quickly exhausted. In the year 1998 670.000 visitors came to the fair.
7412 exhibitors presented their developments in the fields of information and communication technology. There were 698,000 visitors. AOL announces an internet flat rate for Germany. Intel achieved with the new Pentium III processor the mark of 800 MHz. The first MP3 players were introduced and digital cameras with a resolution of 2 megapixels. The millennium bug threatens many older systems.
This year presented from 7515 companies. There was the Germany premiere of Windows 2000. It was increased by the security issues of the wireless world. For the first time the Hall 10 is also used in the south of the fairgrounds. There is a new online service of Deutsche Messe AG: Companies can have their press conferences broadcast live on the Internet.
There was a record number of visitors: 830,000 visitors. E -commerce has become increasingly important, the new PCs have 1 GHz processors. Mobile phones and PDAs are Internet-enabled. The 21 CeBIT Hannover took place from Thursday 9th to Wednesday, March 15, 2006 instead and had about 450,000 visitors. At the special show " Digital Living ", " lifestyle " products of consumer electronics should be presented by around 100 participants. The Digital Living is also a short-term response of the trade fair in Hanover on the decision of the Messe Berlin in November 2005, the future stage International Radio Exhibition (IFA ) not only every two years, but every year. CeBIT Hannover took place from 15th place to 21st March 2007 and had approximately 480,000 visitors. A total of 6,059 exhibitors from 77 countries were represented. The domestic exhibitors claimed as an exhibition area of 170 509 m², 86 042 m² foreign (totaling to: 256 551 m²). Partner country was Russia. One of the main topics was the mobile Internet. Moreover, there was a strong interest in navigation solutions using GPS.
CeBIT 2008 took place from the 4th to March 9, 2008 (Tuesday to Sunday) and had about 495,000 visitors. A total of 5,845 exhibitors from 77 countries were represented. One of the main topics was Green IT; successful was the attempt to attract female visitors at the International Women of the grounds. Partner was France. 2008 for the first time since its construction remained closed as the nucleus of CeBIT 1970, Hall 1.
In 2009, the 24th CeBIT was held ( Tuesday to Sunday ) from 3 to March 8. The number of exhibitors declined by about 1500 to around 4300th However, 69 countries were represented, after all. With 400,000 visitors, the number of visitors decreased compared to the previous year by about 20 percent. As a "partner country" was this year the U.S. state of California. From 2 to 6 March 2010 CeBIT opened its doors to visitors after they opened a day earlier by Chancellor Angela Merkel. The CeBIT 2012 was held from 10th March 6th. Partner country this year was Brazil, theme was " Managing Trust ". First time in years, the number of exhibitors increased this year to over 4,200 exhibitors. Eleven days before the fair, the organizer locked the Hall 9, which should accommodate the range CeBIT lab, due to security defects in the hall construction. The exhibitors had to resort to the Hall 26. For the first time focused on e-commerce providers have been bundled in a hall; this has been done in 2013 as well. There were 312,000 visitors, less than ever before, but this is viewed as a success by the organizers themselves.

CeBIT 2013 takes place from 5 to 9 March 2013 partner country was Poland.

CeBIT 2014 will take place from March 14, 2014 from 10. The theme of CeBIT 2014 is Datability. CeBIT Global Conferences

CeBIT special programs
At CeBIT NDR 1 Niedersachsen transmits on the frequency 90.9 MHz daily 8:00 to 19:00 clock (Friday until 17:00 clock, Saturday and Sunday until 17:30 clock ) detailed information about the fair.
