Cemboing

Cemboing is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cemboing situated at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, 4 km north- west of Jussey and about 33 km northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme northwest of the department, on a slightly inclined to the southeast slope above the valley of Mance, on the eastern slopes of the plateau of Langres.

The area of ​​10.51 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside to the west of the upper Saônetals. The northern and eastern boundary runs partially along the Mance, which here flows with multiple turns through a 1.5 -kilometer-wide Alluvialniederung. The flood plain is on average 220 ​​m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. From the river, the municipality's area extends over the flood plain and the slope of Cemboing up on the adjacent plateau, which drops steeply to the north. With 312 m is reached on the plateau of Rosières the highest elevation of Cemboing. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited mainly during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring communities of Cemboing are Barges and Blondefontaine in the north, Rain Court in the east, Jussey in the south and Saint -Marcel -sur -Mance and Rosières in the West.

History

Remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement site indicate a very early settlement of the area. Is first mentioned in 815 as Cemboing already owned by the monastery of Luxeuil. Through a donation from the church came in 1003 at Saint- Bénigne in Dijon. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté Cemboing came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Due to a major fire in 1814, many houses were destroyed. With the opening of the railway line from Vesoul to Langres, the place was in 1858 connected to the French railroad network. Today Cemboing is a member of the 17 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de l' Assomption was rebuilt in the 18th century and extensively restored in the 19th century. For the rich interior include major statues from the 16th century, the pulpit from the 17th century, a sculpted wooden altar ( late 18th century ) and several grave slabs. In the churchyard stands the monument Mathelat. A Calvaire dates from the 16th century. The village is characterized by various houses from the 18th century, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. Also in the 18th century, the Château de Buyer was built.

Population

With 209 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Cemboing one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 725 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Cemboing was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near a secondary road that leads from Jussey after Vitrey -sur -Mance. Further road links exist with Barges, Rain Court and Noroy -lès- Jussey. The station has now been decommissioned.
