La Basse-Vaivre

La Basse -Vaivre is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Basse -Vaivre situated at an altitude of 242 m above sea level, 18 km north-east of Jussey and about 37 km north- northwest of the city of Vesoul (air line). The road line village stretches in the far north of the department, on the southern edge of the valley of the slightly increased Coney, on the southern edge of the ridge of Mount Paron.

The area of ​​3.54 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of the east of the upper Saônetals. The western and northern border is always along the Coney, which provides for drainage Saône. Parallel north of the river runs the waterway of the Canal de l' Est. The flood plain is on average 230 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. From the river, the municipality's area extends southeastward across the flood plain on the adjacent plateau of Frisémont. Here, the highest peak of La Basse -Vaivre is achieved with 268 m. The eastern boundary to the Bois de Foignouse forms a side stream of Coney. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In various places occurs shell apparent from the Triassic.

Neighboring communities of La Basse -Vaivre are Passavant- la- Rochere and Selles in the north, the east, and Montdoré Demangevelle the south and west.

History

The discovery of an ax from the Bronze Age refers to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages La Basse -Vaivre belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Vauvillers. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today, La Basse -Vaivre is a member of the comprehensive ten localities municipal association Communauté de communes Saône et Coney.

Attractions

Among the attractions of the place include the Mairie ( Municipal House ), the Calvaire and a Lavoir from the late 18th century, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 45 inhabitants (2007 ) La Basse -Vaivre one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 210 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

La Basse -Vaivre has long been a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture and animal husbandry ) embossed village. At the beginning of the 20th century, the economic life was marked by an iron works and a pottery. Today, there are outside the primary sector only a few jobs in the village. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Demangevelle by Selles. Further road links exist with Vauvillers and Passavant- la- Rochere.
