Villars-le-Pautel

Villars -le- Pautel is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villars -le- Pautel situated at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, 8 km north- northeast of Jussey and about 35 km north- northwest of the city of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the extreme north- west of the department, west of Saônetals in the Valley of Bazeuille, on a Verebnungsfläche at the southern foot of the hills of Bois Saint -Julien.

The area of ​​12.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônetals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau de la Bazeuille, which provides for drainage to the southeast to the Saône. The Talniederung is on average 230 m and has a width of about one kilometer. Agricultural land use predominates here.

Is flanked to the west by the depression of the Bois Cornées, in the northwest of the skin you Pleuvre and in the north of the heights of the Bois Saint- Julien ( 338 m). The eastern boundary is marked by the little valley of the Ruisseau des Vaux, a page of Bach's Bazeuille. South of Bazeuille Valley of the slope increases rapidly to the wooded ridge of Donnet. History

In the Middle Ages Villars belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had partly the Lords of Jonvelle, sometimes the masters of Villars -Saint -Marcellin held. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Villars -le- Pautel is a member of the comprehensive 17 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Jusséen.

Attractions

The single-nave church village of Villars -le- Pautel was rebuilt in the 19th century and has a bell tower in the Imperial style. It houses a Pietà painted wood ( 16th century ) and various paintings and statues from the 18th century. Two Calvaires date from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the square stands an oval fountain with monumental column ( 19th century); In addition, there are two covered Lavoirs that once served as a laundry and watering cattle. On an open field west of the town is the chapel of Notre- Dame de Pitié ( 19th century).

Population

With 173 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Villars -le- Pautel one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 833 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Villars -le- Pautel was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture and animal husbandry ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the Bazeuille was formerly used for the operation of mills. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses.
