Chamesey

Chamesey is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chamesey is located at 725 m, 12 km west of Maîche and 32 km south-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a vast plateau on the northwest side of the valley of the Dessoubre, at the southern foot of the ridge of Chamesey.

The area of ​​6.42 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The eastern part of the territory occupied by a plateau, which is on average 700 m. It is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. To the west, the municipality's area covers the wide ridge of Chamesey that separates the plateau from the westerly basin by Pierre Fontaine. At this altitude is 865 m reaches the highest point of Chamesey.

At the hamlet of Derrière le Cret Chamesey part (845 m) on the ridge of Chamesey. Neighboring communities of Chamesey are Belleherbe in the north, Charmoille in the east, Longevelle -lès- Villers Russey and Breton in the south and Pierre Fontaine- les- Varans in the West.

Population

With 120 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chamesey is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​145-175 people, a population decline was recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Chamesey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, some arable and fruit ) embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small enterprises, mainly in wood processing. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Belleherbe after Bretonvillers. Further road links exist with Longevelle -lès- Russey and Laviron.
