Plaimbois-du-Miroir

Plaimbois du Miroir is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Plaimbois du Miroir is at 824 m, 16 km north of Morteau and about 17 km northwest of the town of La Chaux -de-Fonds (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a plateau in the far west of the high plateau of Maîche, above the deep valley of the Dessoubre.

The area of ​​11.71 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the corrugated high surface which is on average of 850 m. It is consisted mainly of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some forest areas. To the east the terrain Le virot ( 945 m) and Champs du Bois rises to the wooded heights of La Vie au Loup ( 943 m ) ( 975 m the highest elevation of Plaimbois du Miroir ).

To the west the plateau runs in the ledge of the Rocher du Miroir from ( 836 m). Limited, it is in the west and north by about 350 m deep valley Dessoubre whose forested slopes ( Côte Barbier ) are traversed in different places of striking Kalkfelswänden. The tortuous course of Dessoubre usually forms the northern boundary of the area. With the Côte de Parfondbief also includes a section of the steep left Talhangs Dessoubre to Plaimbois du Miroir.

Neighboring communities of Plaimbois du Miroir are Bretonvillers and Rosureux in the north, Bonnétage in the east, Montbéliardot and Mont- de -Laval in the south and Laval -le- Prieuré, Guyans -Vennes and Plaimbois -Vennes in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Plaimbois du Miroir belonged to the rule Vennes. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

By January 1, 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Montbeliard, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The village church of Notre- Dame de la Visitation was built in 1700 and enlarged in 1725; the bell tower was added in 1752.

Population

With 217 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Plaimbois du Miroir is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 362 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Plaimbois du Miroir was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, some agriculture ) embossed village. The water power of the Dessoubre was formerly used for the operation of a sawmill and a mill ( Moulin de Girardot ). Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Road links exist with Bonnétage, Le Luhier and Laval -le- Prieuré.
