Charles Gordon-Lennox, 5th Duke of Richmond

Charles Gordon - Lennox, 5th Duke of Lennox KG ( born August 3, 1791 in London, † October 21, 1860 ibid ) was a British Conservative politician.

Charles was a son of Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond and his wife Charlotte Gordon. He succeeded his father in 1819 and at his death as the Duke of Richmond. In 1836 he was an heir of his uncle George Gordon, 5th Duke of Gordon, which is why he changed his name from Lennox Gordon - Lennox Royal Licence.

In Bar Wellington Charles fought in the Napoleonic Wars, where he was wounded in the Battle of Orthez in 1814, as he also took part in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. From 1812 to 1819 he was Member of Parliament for Chichester. The Duke was Postmaster General 1830-1834, and Lord Lieutenant of Sussex from 1835 to 1860.

Charles Gordon - Lennox married in 1817 Caroline ( 1796-1874 ), daughter of Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey, with whom he had the following children:

  • Catherine Augusta (1827-1904), " Countess of thorn castle " in 1851; ∞ 1851 Eduard Duke of Saxe- Weimar
  • George Charles (1829-1877); ∞ 1875 Minnie Augusta Palmer
  • Cecilia Catherine (1838-1910); ∞ 1859 Charles George Bingham, 4th Earl of Lucan
