Charles Gordon-Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond

Charles Gordon - Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond KG, PC ( born February 27, 1818 in Richmond House, London, † September 27, 1903 at Gordon Castle, Morayshire ), was a British Conservative politician.

Charles was a son of Charles Gordon - Lennox, 5th Duke of Richmond, and his wife Caroline Paget. He succeeded his father in 1860 after his death as the Duke of Richmond and Duc d' Aubigny. In 1876 he was raised as the heir of his great-uncle to the Duke of Gordon.

Gordon - Lennox 1841 was Member of Parliament for Sussex West and was during his political career, among other things, Privy Counsellor, President of the Board of Trade, Lord President of the Council, the Secretary of State for Scotland, Leader of the Conservative Party as well as Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire.

The Duke married in 1843 Frances Harriet ( 1824-1887 ), daughter of Algernon Frederick Greville, with whom he had the following children:

  • Algernon Charles (1847-1921); ∞ 1886 Blanche Maynard and is the father of Ivy ( 1887-1982 ) later Duchess of Portland

  • Florence (1851-1895)
  • Walter Charles (1865-1922); ∞ 1889 Alice Elizabeth Ogilvie - Grant
