Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond

Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond KG ( born December 9, 1764August 28, 1819 ) was a British nobleman.

Charles was a son of George Henry, Lord Lennox, and his wife Louisa Kerr. He was a member of the House of Sussex ( 1790-1806 ). This year, he followed his uncle Charles Lennox after his death as Duke of Richmond and duc d' Aubigny.

The following year, he was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. He participated as an officer in the Napoleonic Wars, most recently he commanded as a general in the campaign of 1815, the reserve that protected Brussels. Like his grandfather, he was an avid supporter of the cricket sport.

1818 went Lennox as Governor General to Upper Canada. There he died the following year from rabies after a fox bite.

The Duke married in 1789 Charlotte ( 1768-1842 ), a daughter of Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon, with whom he had the following children:

The City of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, is named alongside several other towns after the Duke, which should be driven through 1819.
